Problems of Organizing Social Support for Foster Families and Citizens Who Wish to Foster a Child (Children) in a Family

The system of pre-selection of candidates for foster parents and their training in the School of Foster Parents is aimed at preventing risks that may arise at the stage of placing a child in a family. However, the training period is too long and at the moment of adopting a child, parents have difficulties in applying the knowledge they have received. The results of a survey among citizens who wish to adopt a child into a family and experts in the field of guardianship have shown the existence of problems that often require immediate intervention by specialists. Destructive behaviour, psychological characteristics of children with experience of orphanhood, overcoming conflict situations and other problems of the period of primary mutual adaptation of the family and the child can be solved by the organisation of continuous socio-psychological and socio-pedagogical support for a smooth transition of families from the services dealing with the placement of orphans to the system of social support for foster families.
